Tink Tach - Update new P/N
Hi, has anyone used the Tiny Tach tachometer? If yes, did you like it? Or any problems with the unit?
Thanks. Tiny Tach Tech Support gave me a new p/n to order for Model A's. 1CRXL. We'll see how this works. Herb Last edited by Herb Concord Ca; 01-23-2023 at 04:05 PM. Reason: update |

Re: Tink Tach
I've used them for years. I like them, but I use them mostly as service minders. I have them on my lawn and garden equipment. Getting kinda pricey now days. There are some less expensive Chinese subs available that seem to work well. Just search Amazon and you'll find several substitutes.

Re: Tink Tach
I bought a cheap digital tach a few years ago, but the poorly translated instruction didn't say how to set the dip switches to select 4 cylinder, etc. Is this addressed with other brands?

Re: Tink Tach
Well, yes, the manuals can be hard to understand. But, you know what RPM range you're looking for so just experiment with the few possible switch configurations until you have an RPM in the range expected. It's not like it's going to be off 20% if you have the wrong switch settings, it's going to be off by 50% or 100% so it's pretty easy to settle on the correct settings.

Tink Tach
I use this. I got the recommendation from a Tom Endy article. It’s easy to install (just two wires to the coil), and it works well.

Re: Tink Tach
Agreed. I was concerned about overreving the engine while driving, and it helps set an accurate idle speed. Also, at one point my engine was dying when coming to a stop, and a tachometer furnished a quick visual check to see if the engine was still running. (I have difficulty hearing.) Tink Tach
If you are an “old hand” with Model As, a tachometer is probably not needed. This was my first Model A, and the tachometer gave me a much needed comfort level learning about the engine.

Re: Tink Tach
To answer no#13, I'm curious about the engine rpm while driving at various speeds, I have Volvo O/D in the car.
Thanks guys, for all the feedback. I ordered a Tiny Tach and asked for the "little EMF filter". Post #3, gave me confidence to order one. BTW, about 2 years ago I destroyed a cheepe from Amazon in about 2 hours. herb |

Re: Tink Tach
Yes, that looks like it. I was told to ask about the "little EMF filter" when ordering. This came from an old 2006 thread on Tiny Tach. The poster said when talking with Tiny Tach, to tell them it for a Model A Ford. The Model A has an unshielded (meaning electrically Noisy) ignition. I ordered mine via their website and added that information in a comment box. You might want to consider ordering directly from Tiny Tach for this reason.

Would like to know where you found the tach with the Ford Model A face on it. I want one! |

Re: Tink Tach - Update new P/N
Thanks for the reply on the Buzz Tach. I might just modify the dial on a small tach myself.

Re: Tink Tach - Update new P/N
I think I have the face image of the tach shown above, I received it from Buzz. It would be scaled to that sun tach.

Re: Tink Tach - Update new P/N
Also, I could take a pic of the face of my tach and you could photoshop it if that would help.
Only thing is the redline is set at 7200 so you would have to blank that out. |
