Re: Head gasket question
Hmmmm. I have had a high compression head on this my 3rd engine. I have never bought a spare gasket for one.
Does the head have any markings, or embossing on it? |

Re: Head gasket question
Take the old gasket to a vendor so you can do a comparison. I bet a BEST graphite gasket (my choice) will do the job.

Re: Head gasket question
When I ordered my 5.5 head from Snyder I also ordered a copper head gasket.
A Snyder rep called and said not to use a copper head gasket and he changed my order to a B-6051-XO head gasket, and said do not use any type of sealant. |

Re: Head gasket question
Bad Bob, Model A heads require periodic re-tightening. Since you don't know when the last re-tightening was done, that should be top on your agenda. Follow the recommended sequence and torque to 55 foot-pounds in 10 foot-pound stages. Do this with the engine cold and repeat every 6 months. If you keep the head tight you probably won't need a head gasket.
I use the Best graphite gasket for the B engine with my Snyder 5.5 head. I used the copper spray gasket sealer.

Re: Head gasket question
Most vintage performance heads required a Model A gasket, as opposed to the B gasket. The important thing is for the gasket to fit the head, don't worry about fitting the block, it is totally flat.
