If you're going to do a poll, do an actual poll. The board lets you start a poll on any new thread.

I run mine on Wild Turkey. Runs great, and when I break down the fuel bowl makes a great glass while I wait for the tow truck.

LOL. I don't think mine has ever made it to 50% diesel, but, it does get some at times. When it gets to 40º it's tucked away for the winter. Actually, now, so am I. |

Re: Ok, i'll poke the bear..Ethanol or Straight Gasoline ?
I have encountered problems with ethanol in my Model A, my older cars, and even my motorcycles. Ethanol eats up everyting like gaskets and even the aluminum in the carburetors. I now only use non-ethanol gas (where available) with additives. No problems for the past three years!

Re: Ok, i'll poke the bear..Ethanol or Straight Gasoline ?
I have non-ethanol gas delivered to the house from the Co-op. Last delivery was $3.47 a gallon. Worth every penny when you factor in the price of a Honda carb on a 10hp pump. Enough small engines to justify the extra cost.

Re: Ok, i'll poke the bear..Ethanol or Straight Gasoline ?
I live in Orange County, NY where only 10% ethanol is available. However, two adjacent counties (Sullivan and Ulster) have some stations with ethanol free gas available so I try to keep my gas tank at approximately 25% non-ethanol; so far no apparent problems.

Re: Ok, i'll poke the bear..Ethanol or Straight Gasoline ?
As stated, a Model A will run on most any fuel, so what ever is convenient and lowest in
price is what I run. Have not run diesel or kerosene yet. LOL

Re: Ok, i'll poke the bear..Ethanol or Straight Gasoline ?
My car sits over the summer here in Florida when it is too hot to enjoy the Model A. I use ethanol when I know I am going to burn it up and non-ethanol when it is going to be sitting for six months. Ed

In WW2 Model A’s ran on generators fed with wood ! Indeed, they will run on anything !

Re: Ok, i'll poke the bear..Ethanol or Straight Gasoline ?
Here in California we have no choice, so all Model A’s here have to run on ethanol. I also add MMO routinely. By the way, I am no fan of ethanol, but honestly I have had zero problems using it for 15 years now, other than I have heard you get a bit less mileage and performance.

Re: Ok, i'll poke the bear..Ethanol or Straight Gasoline ?
If you're driving regularly use whatever mix you want. In the fall as you drive less and then park it for winter, I ONLY use non-ethanol. If you ever wonder what it looks like over time, put some in a vented glass jar. It ends up with some nasty crud in the bottom after sitting a month.

Re: Ok, i'll poke the bear..Ethanol or Straight Gasoline ?
My buddy has an ATV/motorcycle shop. Does sales, repairs/service.
He told me when he opened he'd get in a few carbs every year that needed cleaning due to sitting up. Then E gas showed up at the pump and the number of repairs on carbs went thru the ROOF. He did nearly 500 in one year. Most of his clients are friends and family, he'd much more like to work on things other than the carb. He told me he started telling folks to run straight gas in their ATV's etc, and the # of repairs has fallen dramatically, so he can do other pursuits. He said he only bought the shop cause he raced moto-x and wanted to be able to work on his stuff when he wanted..he makes his $$ in other places. So it seems if you drive it regular than whatever is fine. If you do the once a month drive you should run Real Gas. Its interesting to see the poll results. Thanks for the replies. |

Once that is cleaned out you shouldn’t have problems except for storage and water absorption in damp climates. Automobiles today have sealed fuel system so that is not a problem. Model A’s breathe in air to replace the fuel you burned and that brings water vapor in to be absorbed by the ethanol. When the ethanol gets saturated corrosion starts. Ethanol adulterated gas about 10% less BTU’s per gallon compared to gasoline. Last edited by GPierce; 06-13-2021 at 04:36 PM. |
