Re: timer assy question?
The slot in the roller is oriented to the front of the car. The pin is then placed into the slot and hole in the cam shaft. Then place the small cap over the cam shaft so it covers the head of the pin. Then place the nut on the end of the cam shaft to hold everything in place.

Re: timer assy question?
Unless you have one of the camshafts with the hole all the way thru!

Re: timer assy question?
Never seen it. I cannot picture Ford drilling the hole all the way through. Think about the mess he would have had with production.

Re: timer assy question?
The earlier cams had the hole drilled all the way through.

Re: timer assy question?
Not bad if you remember which way the brush/roller mounted at TDC.

Re: timer assy question?
You wouldn’t need to know TDC otherwise.

Re: timer assy question?
You are going to need find TDC to time it properly anyway.

Re: timer assy question?
i have the roller on and coils it runs better but on a slight incline it has no puwer and when shifting into high it stumbles and take a little time to get up to speed. i do not have a compression gauge. next i will look at the intake gaskie it has been a long time since they have been change. at least i can drive now before i could not get around the block
thanks for all the replays i will keep you posted it will be next saturday before i can look at it again kevin |

Re: timer assy question?
Stumbling could be: driver, too lean fuel mixture or wrong spark setting. Or, all three. Which intake gasket do you now have installed? If fiber type, they don't last long so may need replacing.

Re: timer assy question?
Do know how to do a vacuum leak test? Check for vacuum leaks first, don't just replace something to replace it unless it needs replacing.

Re: timer assy question?
Start the motor, play the tip of an unlit propane torch around where the intake attaches to the block. If there are any changes in RPM or motor sound you may have vacuum leak. You could also try WD-40 or oil.
