Re: 600w Oil or STP for Steering Box ...
Thanks, all ... some good and interesting information for this newbie. I’ll hit the road again today and see what I can come up with.
I get the impression that the real 600w oil isn’t necessarily the best, anyway, and perhaps not worth the trouble of trying to find it. Thanks, again. Cheers, Dave |

Re: 600w Oil or STP for Steering Box ...
That appears to be SAE 140 gear oil, not 250 which is the modern 600 Wt....I bought a gal of SAE 140 from Amazon for $25 or so and free prime shipping

Oh yes it is a lubricate. It also contains zddp that is lacking in modern oils.

Re: 600w Oil or STP for Steering Box ...
I had problems here in France buying 600W for my Model A transmission. In desperation I emailed Castrol Oil Co. They came back with the modern equivalent to 600W is their D140.

Re: 600w Oil or STP for Steering Box ...
I used to use JD cornhead and switched to Penn-rite. I like it better, less gooey less of a mess.

Re: 600w Oil or STP for Steering Box ...
I started using cornhead grease which seems to work very well, 600W wasn't staying in the box. I have a question though - how many pumps of a grease gun to use? I basically pumped it in until my hand got tired, maybe 20 strokes.

Re: 600w Oil or STP for Steering Box ...
What I did was take out one of the bolts and pumped the corn head grease in until it pushed out the old 600w
