Default 34 Radiator Petcock-Where is it?

I would have bet anything that my 34 Ford radiator had a petcock to drain it but I can't find it.

Am I not seeing something that IS there? Or was there never one on it?

In a previous post someone suggested removing a bolt at the bottom of the water pumps but I believe they were referring to a later model V-8.

Anyone know about a radiator drain?

Thanks, Tom

If you have the correct engine, ith peacocks are on the block just behind the front motor mount.

mhaim is correct, it is lower then then bottom tank of the radiator in the block on each side. There are 2 drains because the only place the water mixes side to side is in the radiator. You need to drain both sides.

Is it an original radiator or been replaced fairly recently? Most newer aftermarket replacements have a drain pedcock. Is there any pipe, tube, or hose other than the lower large hoses going to the pumps from the bottom of the radiator? Do you have a retrofit water core type heater? I have seen some use the threaded hole on the lower driver side of the radiator for the pedcock for a fitting / nipple to a return hose from heater core.

Got it guys, thanks so much. Now to get them loose. It may not be a problem. We'll see.

The reason I was looking for a drain was to change the antifreeze and put on new hoses. When I do that I'm thinking I might take the radiator to a shop and have it checked out and cleaned.

I'm going to make a new post about taking out the radiator but it looks like I need to remove the 4 side brackets and the two top support rods as well as disconnecting the four hoses. Is there something else holding the radiator in place that I don't see? I'm not sure how the neck of the radiator will come free from the top of the grill.

The radiator might be original and if its not it has been in the car since before 1970.

All comments appreciated.

Tom

Here is a good shot of the drain cock on the passenger side of a 35-36 display chassis. There is one on the driver's side also.

There is a bolt/spring on either side at the bottom of the radiator.

You'll have to remove the grille in order to get the radiator out....
