New Fuel Pump Installed-Now leaking-Help
O.k. guys I installed a new mechanical fuel pump on my '34 Ford. Its leaking where the fuel line leaves the pump going to the carburetor. drip, drip, drip.
The ferrule looks good. I'm wondering if its just not seating properly. I've taken it off and put it back on a couple of times and it still leaks. Its plenty tight. If I cut the old ferrule off and put a new one on I think the line will be to short. I'm thinking about making another line and if I do I'm going to use all new parts. What is the correct name for the nuts that connect each end and what size are they ( 1/2x20?)? Thanks for the help. Tom |

Before installing a new line remove the leaking line and inspect the seat for the ferrule inside the new fuel pump. It is very possible the seat is bad.

Re: New Fuel Pump Installed-Now leaking-Help
A lot of the ferrules supplied are made of hard brass and don't
compress very good on the tube or seat very well. I anneal the brass by heating the ferrules and putting in cold water. G.M.

"Ford nut" Edelmann 108400; still pretty common in the brass fitting bins.
G.M. is right, many of the ferrules are too hard now days; good idea to anneal them. |

Another method I have used is to tin the ferrule with solder, the softer solder will fill imperfections
