Edsel Ford Roadster
I had a rough day at work yesterday photographing the 1934 Edsel Ford Roadster. A beautiful aluminum hand built body. Car will be on display at opening of Lemay Museum in June. No, I did not have a chance to drive it....

Re: Edsel Ford Roadster
I guess you could call it a beauty but reminds me of a coffin. For my money I'll take regular 33 or 34 roadster.
B T W Thanks for the pics |

Amazing car! Reminds me of an early Bonneville streamliner.

Re: Edsel Ford Roadster
Looks like the restoration came out great. What a piece of Ford history it is. It should be a nice addition to the museums grand opening. I was in there several weeks ago and with what they have planned the museum is going to be a great destination for tourists in the northwest much the same as the Peterson has been for L.A. .............................

Re: Edsel Ford Roadster
I like it better painted red but I think it was originally painted a dark gray, reportedly Edsel's favorite color...? Originally the car had a different front end treatment as well.

Re: Edsel Ford Roadster
Unless you are the stature of Edsel Ford ... rather short and thin by today's standard ... you have to remove the seat cushion to drive the car. I'm right at 6'0" and 200, and no way did I fit when I drove it.
Vic's correct about the color (Gray) and the "updated" front end which was done by Ford.

Re: Edsel Ford Roadster
Not one of Ford's better ideas. I too prefer the stock 34 Roadster.

Re: Edsel Ford Roadster
That car always made me think that Edsel was a bit of a Hot Rodder at heart. It looked better on the drawing board than it actually worked but that was a design engineer's learning curve. The Lincoln cars were works of art. Edsel had an amazing eye for that.

Re: Edsel Ford Roadster
Edsel was a Hot Rodder, he was always interested in speed, performance and body design. His collaboration with E.T. "Bob" Gregory produced some of the most stunning automobile designs in the '30's through the early '50's. The '40 Continental is one of a select few automobiles honored by the Museum of Modern Art. Any fan of "Fat Fendered Fords" owes homage to Edsel Ford.

Re: Edsel Ford Roadster
We saw this car at the Detroit Auto Show in January. It was on an upper floor of the Mercury Linclon display. For me it was one of the highlights of the Day. Byron.

Re: Edsel Ford Roadster
If you look at the early three pics it looks like a grown man in the little car & a kid in Edsels 34 & not sure but may be Henry in the background.

Re: Edsel Ford Roadster
Edsel was very interested in European automobile design from both an esthetic and performance perspective. Edsel asked E.T. Gregory to design a car with "Continental" flair, a car that looked like a European design. The design Gregory came up with became known as the Lincoln Zephyr Continental when put into production for the 1940 Model Year.
