Default 40 Standard Grille Repair

I have a friend with a good 40 standard grille with a bar broken loose at the bottom. You can't see it unless it's pointed out. Is there someone out there that can do a repair on the grille so it wouldn't show? It will be painted.

JB Weld might do a fair job.

I'd assume someone who is a good TIG welder or braze it from the backside.

The problem with welding the pot metal or white metal grills can be heat which can easily warp the grill and cause blow outs which can be very difficult to try and refill. There are some very good and strong epoxy type adhesives.

Hey, Gary - if you can make a small piece of metal to hold the bar in place, there are some really great glues, JB Weld being be of them, that can do the trick. If it’s a chromed grille, you might have to be a little more creative coloring wise for the little support piece. And I would make the support piece tie into the chin pan. Yes, you know it’s there but from 5’ away you can’t even see it, chrome or painted grille.

I have posted some pics here on the Barn side in a thread about a year or so ago. I will post a couple pics soon as I find them .....

I have and use 'MUGGY WELD' (super alloy 1) to fix pot metal cracks, pits, etc. for parts to be re-chromed.
No high temperature welding necessary. It's just a matter of learning the process and proper preparation.

I am no expert, but I thought standard grilles we’re stamped steel. Is this not correct?

Real '40 Ford standard grilles are die cast.
Once upon a time the aftermarket produced a stamped steel grille.
