Radiator needs help.
I have a 1936 radiator that really needs some work. Besides needing cleaned up, it needs new water inlets and outlets attached. Someone removed one of each when they had a different engine installed that didn't use 2 ins and 2 outs.
I live in the Springfield , MO area so someplace in the midwest would be handy. If no, I can ship it. Thanks Mark |

Re: Radiator needs help.
Not sure what you mean by cleaned up but before you go to the trouble and expense to have the outlets corrected, is the core any good? In the long run you might be better off with a new radiator from someone like Brassworks. Yes it will be more $$ than the cleaning up and outlet repair but in the end you'll know exactly what you've got. JMO

Re: Radiator needs help.
Most good radiator shops will not have the missing inlet or outlet. Best you can find a parts radiator for the missing pieces. Or even advertise in the parts wanted section. Make sure to call any radiator shop with details such as in/outlet size.

Re: Radiator needs help.
The core is still good. Yes, I was wondering about being able to find the parts to fix it. I may just call Brassworks and see what they can do.
Thanks |

Re: Radiator needs help.
Brassworks can be 10 weeks out- Oregon has lost most of its radiator shops. just an aside. Newc

I would suggest contacting one of the circle track racers in your area and ask them about a reputable shop near you. The link above is the one I used [Foster Road store] back in the '60s. They are the guys that did the '49 a couple of years back. I needed everything AND straitened out my thinking on "old school" cooling. Back in the day 4 core was it. Not so much now. 3 large tubes and more fins per inch. A Balance between "dwell time" of the water flow and airflow. If one didn't look real close it would be hard to tell if it wasn't original. I guess my point is the shops servicing the circle track guys know about maximizing your cooling. If you are going to have work done on the tanks you are 1/2 way there as to updating your core. |
