Chris,

Corn head grease is a good choice for the steering gear box (and the U-joints). That amount of oil loss is believable over 5 or 6 miles given that the rear bearing is fed under pressure.

David, Ford Folks,
Thank you for the continued support and advice too. Of course after I put the gear oil in there I figured it should be thicker.
So I guess I have come to grips with the engine oil leak. It's agravating me a little, but not enough to stop and pull the engine yet. It is hard to believe that the engine was driven in its past life with it leaking like this!
I am still happy it's running and moving and I have had a ball with this ragged ol' truck so far. Great comments from all that look at it. A unusual time capsule for sure.
Sure glad I went for some rides in it yesterday, as we are in rinse cycle, and temp will drop into the 20's by tonight.
Regards,
Chris

Back in the day reclaimed bulk oil was cheap. Maybe the owner figured it was easier and not all that expensive to put up with the leak and keep filling it up with bulk oil?

51504bat,
Yes times change. Mostly for the good. I remember a shop close by and all the waste oil was dumped in a spot at the corner outside the shop.
Almost every big toy I own marks it's territory. This old truck is number one in that category!
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Resting comfortable on page 2 for a couple days.
Shop work progressing slowly. Getting VERY spolied when I walk in and its 67 in the small shop area.
Left over shiplap hemlock is being used on the loft walls.

Trucks are tucked in the big bay. Roads are snow covered and salted. So the 15 got rinsed off good.

Added 3/4 gallon of 50/50 antifreeze to top of the 32 radiator. I tried the horn and It seems that it has a flat spot on the motor winding? Just move the horn motor a little and it works fine for a couple tries then wont work till moved again. Could also be my contact in the lowere portion of the steering column too??
Most of the lube leaked out of the steering box. Next trial will be with a grease as recommended.
Hope things are good in Ford Land!
Regards,
Chris

Mark,
The retirement thing is great! I recommend it for everyone.
Wishing all the folks on the Ford Barn the best holidays!
Think maybe i will make one click adjustment on the sound setting on the 32's horn, that might allow it to spin easier.
Regards,
Chris

Chris,

A good place to start (with the horn adjustment).

David, Ford folks,
Yes the one click of the horn adjustment to lessen the pressure, seemed to do the trick! Cooper had to try the a-oog-ah horn and it functions much better. Must be the slightly cooler weather!
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
We are down to tidbits and tuning things on the 32. About right for where I expected to be at this time. Actually better than I had envisioned.
So took the truck for a four mile ride to test the additional seal under the rad cap, and the horn adjustment function. Both work well. No frothing coolant splashing out on to the windshield. The horn my be a slight different tune. When riding in the truck you just can barely hear it! Ok there are lots of rattles and noise in and around this ragged ol' truck!

Making Maple BBQ and Maple Mustard sauces. Thanks to Jim from Bugs&Tugs for helping a fellow sugarmaker.
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Numbers are everywhere. Why do special ones show up? The wife's birthday numbers 826 came up twice today. Once as John K (42 Deluxe ) got off the interstate on the way to Charlie ny's place, and when I looked at the view counter on this thread.

John and I solved all the worlds problems on the way to Orchard Park NY and back! While John's mission was to drop off his 42 three speed tranny, fuel pump and carb. My reason to ride along was to meet Charlie and drool on his beautiful trucks! When we got there he was testing a carb on a flat head engine in the test stand. I oogled the 32 pickup till he fired it up and brought it up to running temp. Very smooth running engine, in a very nice truck that him and his wife use to go on short trips.

The glow you see in these pictures may look like we had gone to Ford Heaven. Well we may have been very close! Thanks John and Charlie for a memorable day!

Charlie, (Charlie ny) on right, John, (42Deluxe) on left:

I can now talk a little about 32 trucks. And this is a nice one:

Charlie has added some of his own touches to the 32:

His 41 Ford pickup is awesome too.

I still cant speak flat head language so I just listened and tried to absorb what was flying around his shop!
He gave us the tour of his machine shop and rebuilding supplies and some hints about the details he puts into each and every rebuild, from distributors, carbs, fuel pumps and more! Charlie is for sure a skilled and well versed craftsman. I was impressed!

Here is his very innovative hoist system for heavy lifting! Trolley rolling on a pipe! Very slick!

We had coffee and pie with Charlie at his local hangout and then John and I talked all the way back to Erie. A 5 hour round trip that seemed like it was over in a few minutes! We invited Charlie to come down when he has John's projects complete and we will give him the tour of local vintage car happenings in our area too. Sure hope that can happen!
A great trip!

I think I must go take the 32 for a drive. It maybe a little jealous of me being out admiring other old Fords today?

Regards,
Chris

Burnette, Folks,
Hope the surprises each day provide someone with some reason to get one of their projects, big or small moving along and enjoying the experience too.

Chris...Thanks for sharing the pics of Charlie and his shop! Charlie and Alice are "top shelf" when it comes to V8 friends! He has done much for me (personally) and for my cars. Really enjoying this thread!

Stay Safe!

Pat, Ford folks,
Cheryl and I had great fun celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary yesterday! All our kids, grandkids, great grand kids, plus friends joined us.
Today we took several rides in the 32 dump truck. All systems preformed as expected. We traveled at about 25 mph and made it home each time! I think every one some what likes the rattles and slow speed. Pictures coming.
Regards,
Chris

As a friend of mine asks, 50 years in a row? To the same woman?
Congrats to you both.

Guy,
Thank you! Yes same woman too!
I was looking at facebook marketplace for old Ford trucks and she said If I got another one I might as well not come home. Humm? Thinking on that one a little! I like mid 50's trucks and late 70's trucks. Humm? Ok I like 40-41 pickups too!
Yea, I have a problem! Also have a wonderful wife!
Regards,
Chris
