Lots of VW/Porsche suppliers list them.

The Bosch "Blue" coil is nominally 3 ohms, one thing I can't figure out is why Bubba doesn't recommend a coil closer to the OEM value when used with points & switched ballast. Ford used (about) 1.4 ohm coils with an external ballast resistor for many years in 12 volt systems. So for these applications, it would seem like the Bosch "Red" coil of 1.8 ohms would be the logical choice?

Stan, are you sure? I know you bought a couple of condensers from me. I don't think Bubba offers them.

There were no early Fords with a 12 v,. supply. When changing over to 12 volts, this is the coil to use dump and any resistor in the circuit.

I've been using the black 00012 same coil just oil filled instead of epoxy..

I've had good luck with the Beru 12 v. blue coil and it's half the price of the Bosch.

Tubman, You are correct, Sorry I bought them from you. As you get older you make more errors. Sorry . Stan

No there weren't any early Fords with a 12 volt supply, but that really isn't a factor. When Ford did change to 12 volts, they used an ignition coil with an approximately 1.4 ohm primary winding and a divider network utilizing an external ballast of approx 1.5 ohms that only switched in after engine start. See where I'm goin' with that?

A 3 ohm ignition coil could in theory have more difficult cold starts, or possibly when flooded. Ford set up their 12 volt ignitions the way the did for a reason, all cars and trucks from 1957 to 1974 basically. Many other makes and models did exactly the same thing.

Don't I know it. I just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the exact parts being used so they can give the best possible advice.

I can't wait to see the finished product!

In theory it could, but it also introduces another part that can be prone to failure.

Yep i am hooked on the Bosch blue coil at 3.0 ohms , been buying them from amazon . I have also used the beru blue coil , a little less ohms but a good unit as well......

I've heard of Ballast resistors going bad occasionally but I don't think it's a cause for concern. Ford didn't seem to think so either (nor GM or Chrysler etc..) Remember this was THE classic points and condenser wiring circuit for millions and millions of cars and trucks, back when hollow state igntion ruled the roost.
