Default T5 overdrive transmission to closed driveshaft

Is it possible to connect a T5 overdrive transmission and still retain the OEM enclosed drive shaft and rear axle . I know about the yoke adapters that allow the use of open drive shaft , but I would like to go the other way if possible .

There are a few threads on some specific conversions - do a search. BUT, none of them will use the stock/standard length torque-tube, driveshaft or center-crossmember transmission location/mount. Once you have the T5 modified (or if you do it the way that Pete did it on one of his racecars - with a non-modified T5), then you'll need to shorten the original driveshaft and torque-tube.

Depending on the method used, you may also have other modifications to the frame, center x-member, etc.. BUT, in the end, you'll have a really nice setup with a modern transmission, overdrive and a standard/stock rear end.

That is not possible without lengthing the wheelbase of the car.

There are several ways to retain a shortened version of the torque tube and shaft.

1 - Take a look at this. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?

2 - Go with one of several available conversions to the back of the transmission.

IndianapolisRacer …...This is the link to the REAL DEAL about the project that my friend Heard and I spent many months developing a means to bolt a T5 (using ALL Borg-Warner factory parts) to a shortened, OEM Ford enclosed torque tube and drive shaft. Most of the details, with many pictures here. I'll try to answer any questions you may have. Click the link below! Please leave your comments! DD
