What Battery?
I'm considering an Optima RedTop 6-Volt Battery # 9010-044. Will this work for my stock V-8 1950 Ford Custom? Anyone using them? Thanks

Re: What Battery?
No reason it would not work. I'm on my second one in my '51. The first lasted 10 years.

Re: What Battery?
I have had one in my '51 for at least the last 10 years. It has always worked well for me. It went dead once over the winter, but I was able to bring it all the way back because I have a variable DC power supply. If they are down far enough, a regular charger won't bring them back. All this being said however, there were a couple of threads on the H.A.M.B. (there's that word again) about how quality control has gone to hell since they moved their manufacturing to Mexico. Also, it seems the warranties are not worth the paper they're written on. When I need a new battery, I will very carefully check the Optima's warranty, and if it's not robust enough, I will most likely buy a group 2 from Fleet Farm for about 1/2 the price. (The FF battery has 725 CCA vs. my Optima's 800).

Re: What Battery?
I have two cars with Optima batteries for the last nine years - No problems. They are still performing, as if they were still new.

Re: What Battery?
I have one in my '35. Had to modify the battery box (Optima 6V is taller than the original size battery), but otherwise, no problems. Seems to hold a charge very well, even with old generator cut out system.

Re: What Battery?
My last one came from Amazon. The price was very good, along with free shipping, but..... the battery was shipped poorly repackaged instead of in Optima factory packaging, and pure luck it wasn't damaged. I contacted Amazon and made them aware of the poor packaging. Not sure I'd buy another battery from them. JFYI |
