Decided that the difference in the value of the dollar is a moot point. Old iron is fun and ain't going to be cheap!
Weather has been a bit nasty around here, but finally got back to the car business today. Drained the oil... not a lot of extra fluid seemed to come out!?! It looks like fairly new oil, a bit dark, but not as black as it usually is. I think that has to do with the fuel that is in it. Looks and feels like a very light oil.
Pulled the oil filter as well, a bit darker I think, but feels a little light as well. I do get a slight smell of gas, enough to be concerned about either the fuel pump or the carb. Seems to be more of an issue than just a slight flooding problem.
I'm going to let it drain over night, then go from there.

I changed the oil and filter, then I cleaned the plugs. Put some oil in the cylinders and cranked it a few times before putting the plugs back in. Oiled the distributor and checked to make sure all the plug wires were tight. I'm thinking the plugs were worse than I thought. H10C's with only a few hundred miles on them!
It's up in the air right now, so after I grease and change the lubs, I'll test the fuel pump and take it from there.

We have a few stations here locally that sell ethanol free regular gas. About 10 cents more a gallon but I use it in all my vehicles.

Nothing but ethanol-free for my Flathead!

Good to hear it is working, but need to monitor it to figure out where the gas is getting into the oil in the first place!

I'll be checking for sure. As for the fuel, I only use ethanol free in in the car and in all my lawn and garden stuff and I treat the fuel as well

Looks like all is well with the Shoebox. After I drained the oil, I let it sit for a spell and thought I should see some separation. None!?! I'll monitor as I do check the oil on all my gear before I fire it up.
I do appreciate all the tips, the advise and the suggestions here at the "Barn", that's why I joined. Great place.
Had a lot of difficulty greasing the universal joints, can't get in there! Jacked up the car by the frame and lowered the axle as best as I could and still no luck. Read a post here about grinding the grease gun fitting, had a few, so that's what I did! worked like a charm.
Been running the car pretty pretty steady now for the last couple of weeks and I am some kind of Happy!! Thanks guys.
Now it's on to my old Ford Tractors for a while!!
