Default gas prices are goofy

unless you just came out of a coma, you know gas prices are up. We all know that, but they are goofy too.I'm here to report the last 2 days traveling from minnesota to oklahoma for the pre war swap meet. 800 miles, been doing this trip for about 30 years or so, I dont think i've missed one. In the old world, MN. prices would be higher than say, nebraska or kansas, iowa about the same. the bonus was that Oklahoma was always way cheaper. In fact, I am such a cheap ass if I drove my pickup I would bring a 55 gallon drum to buy red diesel fuel with no soybeans in it for nearly a dollar less than greedy minnesota wants for the soybean witches brew. So, enough whimpering about me, here's the facts from the trip. prices are generally the same from MN to OK. 3.79 to 3.99 every where. the goofy thing is you can also see a 50 cent difference in the same town, where there normally might only be a 2ct difference. Then, also, there might be 3 towns in a row 50 cents higher, but then back to the norm 3.79-3.99. I find it odd that you used to have to cross a whole state to see a 50 cent difference, and now it could be 3 blocks. I should add, that I cheat and drive past most stations in my 1991 honda crx-hf , rated at 55 mpg, which it will still get barring a great headwind, or running the AC. Did I mention I was a cheap ass?

I suppose it depends on when the station had the tanker fill their tanks
and what they paid for it then ? Who knows

I run down to Cincinnati a bit lately for family. Most is fairly level till you get outside Indianapolis. There is a longer stretch of road with a big truck stop. They are always 20cents higher. If you go 100 miles before or after it is cheaper. I've been driving a newer Impala lately for the trip and it gets about 23 at 70-80. Also goes up to 100 quick. Honda's are a good road car.

I always fill up in the rural areas as I just want to pass through the urban areas as fast as I can anyways.

Our state has flirted with losing state gas tax for a few months as we are in surplus. Guess it's always better to have a surplus then being in the negative.

My ex's brother in law bought a 2000s nisson leaf for under 10k last year. He's mapped out all the local stations in Florida. Some free charge. Think he posted last yr he paid 12$ to get around. He wasn't gloating, just saying. He only does under 100 mile trips at best.

Hope you picked up some neat stuff!

The prices I see locally are also behaving oddly. Bigger spreads between intersection competitors with pockets of cheaper and more expensive stations within a few miles.

We are living in a weird time.

Don't worry, the cheaper ones will catch up soon. Prices have gone ballistic here.

Even odder is the price of a barrel of crude is going DOWN and the price of gas is going up. Nothing chaps my ass more than price gouging, so I've been doing some research as to why.

Well, ONE thing that "chaps my ass" is politicians who love to run on hatred of the big corporations--yet take their $$ and do nothing to help solve the problems they ran on.

$5.579 on the sign at the curb. The pump had it for 10¢ less, so I felt lucky to get the bargain price. Finished pumping, I had gotten in on the cusp of raising the price, pump displayed the increased price for the next sucker. So nice to save such a whopping sum of money like that, isn't it? Not.

The speculators and the oil companies are having a field day at our expense.
