Default Making whitewalls white

I have a nice condition set of Allstate 16 inch whitewall tires for my 40 but the white has become a yellow/white. Tried AJAX with no luck. Is there a solution that will restore the white?

What about a whitewall paint like we used in the day? Do they still sell it?

Thanks Barners.

I dunno. Always thought that yellowed whitewalls were a nice way to soften up the look of a car. Isn't everybody paying big money for patina these days. Sheesh, restore them to bright white and you'll kill the value! Just my luck.

Try something like Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner. I had the same issue and the only thing that worked was a foaming bathroom cleaner.

Use to use steel wool pads. Be sure liquid cleaners don't damage your paint.

To make those white walls cleaner than snow, use Westley's Bleach White, this stuff works. Find it at the usual places. Do not use imitations. Use a green 3M pad, stiff brush, etc.

Yellowed is okay, balded is bad

Simple green. Also was available at the dollar store. Most depots have it. Works very well.

Don't recommend bleach unless you want yellow again.
Get ERASER @ the grocery store pic of mr clean on the box.

From the Diamondback web site:

CLEANING TIPS (No Bleach)
One of the first things you will notice is that Diamond Back Classics are extremely easy to clean. Most whitewalls turn dingy or yellow because of the leaching of chemicals (mostly anti-oxidants) into the white material. Because our process uses a butyl lining to stop chemical leeching, you only have to clean the surface dirt. We recommend frequent cleanings with an abrasive cleaning pad. A fine or medium sanding sponge works well. These are available at most hardware stores.

Any good cleaner works OK - Castrol Super Clean, 409, Simple Green, Greased Lightning - just to name a few. Avoid cleaners that contain bleach. Prolonged use of these cleaners can “dry” the whitewall surface. Do not use products such as Armor All on whitewall. This could cause slight discoloration. Whitewall surfaces tend to “dry” with time, heat, ozone, etc. A vigorous cleaning periodically will get rid of the dry surface and help maintain the tire’s beauty. Don’t be afraid to scrub.

Lee.

when i bought my diamond back's, they recommended castrol super clean, as well as other products. super clean is available locally so that is what i use along with a grey scotch brite. works great.

I used to use Comet back when I had white walls. Worked very well. It was abrasive and it was white.

My experience with Wesley's is that it works on some whitewall tire brands and is worthless on other brands.

A side note, it you have the tires off the car, do not stack them or lean them so that the black walls of one tire is against the whitewall, you will gain a permanent stain. (not my experience, just read it on some tire co. website)
