Extractors are BS, and called never outs, as once you snap it off you only have a couple options; See if you heat the easy out to soften the hardened extractor, or task your motor to machine shop that has Elox maxhine, which uses and arc to burn out the extractor. As a former machinist, I recommend carefully center punching the broken threaded remains, and using a small brad point drill, slowly and carefully drill a hole through the broken fastener. Then bump up the size of the drill until you get to the root diameter of the fastner thread. If you got it centered and drilled straight, there are usually just afew thread chips left.

Pete, I agree. I put the word out yesterday to a few friends about a machine shop that is capable of removing it, and within about an hour, I had a response and think I found someone to do it.

Russ, I may try that if the machine shop wants to charge too much.

And yeah, I'll admit, I jumped the gun on the whole "new head thing". I was just frustrated after working on the car for a while yesterday and then that happened. Truth be told, a friend of mine was actually the one that snapped the extracter. I had drilled it and got it ready, and stepped back to have a cigarette, and as I was doing that, he crouched down and went to work and snap. He was pissed he broke the tool and I was pissed that now I have even more work on my hands. I trust him and have worked on many cars with him before, so I know that he knows what he was doing, sometimes shit just happens.

I've gotten so many ideas from this post and the other post about needing a new head that if the machine shop doesn't work out because of price, I will just take everyones ideas and keep at it until I find a solution that works.

A broken "easy out" is too hard to be drilled but can be removed with a dremel and chain saw sharpening bits. Buy a couple packs of the Oregon bits (dremel bits are useless) and grind down slowly through the easy out. You'll wear out a bit every 1/16" or so. It's slow going but will work.

I absolutely love my G model, flathead six... so damn easy to work on! I just want to buy an extra crab distributor, an extra thermostat housing and an extra water pump... those are the parts that seem the hardest to find!

I wouldn't think that a good used 6 cylinder head would be too difficult to find.
