Re: Ever seen this 1932 Roadster ???
Trim rings. Those thin 18" trim rings are Chevy parts.

Re: Ever seen this 1932 Roadster ???
Wait until I drop that Chevy 350 small block in..... you won’t even notice the rings!
(Just kidding!) I have to imagine old rings are hard to find???? Frankly, I’d rather old Chevy vs Chinese repro, but if I can find vintage Ford I’m all for it! I’ll keep my eyes peeled. The more info the better! Thanks Alchemy! |

Re: Ever seen this 1932 Roadster ???
The first model year for Ford wheel trim rings was 1935, so there are no "Ford" 18" or 17" trim rings, only 16", etc. Any available for those first two wheel sizes were from aftermarket suppliers.

Re: Ever seen this 1932 Roadster ???
Not to pick a fight Alchemy BUT I think you are wrong, the "Chevy" trim rings are thicker, wider (Cover more to the outside diameter of the rim) and a bit "smoother than what appears to be on this roadster, TO ME. I don't have them in front of me but I just bought 2 18" Chevy rings a few months back and from memory that's what it appears to me!!! Those rings look exactly like the ones on my friends 32 he just sold and that car (sands the trim rings not being a Ford option) was 100% 32 correct & original. ALSO of aftermarket suppliers I believe there "may" have been two different "skinny" SS trim rings for 18"...the most common two "Step" or "accent" line and I believe (again, I don't have the ones for our car in front of me) but I think we have one or two that are three "step" or "accent" line. Maybe the more seasoned 32'ers on here will chime in.
PS David's above post is more to the point than mine as the SS trim rings are not correct for 32 anyway. Last edited by rockfla; 03-13-2019 at 03:34 PM. |

OK, I concede. They aren't actually Chevy rings. But it sure did get some blood pressures up didn't it?

It keeps us young! The car has so much gingerbread on it I was considering putting some period blackwalls on her. Maybe lose the mirrors on the spares, the spare fabric covers and remove the wing window hardware. Just to tone it down, just a little. All can be put back on. I also wanted to ask you guys about radiator overflow. The car has none. Did '30's fords have either factory or aftermarket overflows? What do you guys do??? Josh |

Re: Ever seen this 1932 Roadster ???
No overflows from Ford in the period.
You may wish to keep the wind wings if you plan on driving the car. They make it a more comfortable experience and were standard equipment on deluxe roadsters, unlike the spare-mounted mirrors which were an aftermarket item. |

Re: Ever seen this 1932 Roadster ???
Interesting! Ready for a dumb question??? Looking into the neck of my radiator I can't see the level. I'm guessing that's normal. How do you know your radiator's coolant level?

Re: Ever seen this 1932 Roadster ???
With the engine running at operating temperature your coolant should be visible just below the overflow tube with the radiator cap removed. Too much coolant and it will overflow out the tube. Too little coolant and there will be none visible at operating temperature. It is pretty unsophisticated, but effective, all other things in the cooling system being up to spec. For a lot of driving in warm or hot weather or in hilly terrain, an overflow capture/return would be a worthwhile addition.

Yes on the blackwalls.I prefer them without the sidemounts and put the trunk in storage but leave the rack.Just a matter of taste |

Re: Ever seen this 1932 Roadster ???
Definitely ditch the whitewall tires (Sorry David) especially with those tacoma cream wires. The radiator cap (Quail) would have to go too. Standard issue 32 would be perfect IMHO!! "IF" you did decide to "liquidate" the SS trim rings consider my hat "officially" in the ring for a good home for them!!!! Thats a "big IF" IF you didn't notice!!

Re: Ever seen this 1932 Roadster ???
I agree regarding the WSW with cream wheels, radiator cap, non-Ford trunk, and non-Ford tire covers. Given the size of the trunk, it may be that the rack underneath it isn't the '32 Ford version.

I appreciate all the input and opinions. I’ll also try to get ahold of Henry’s son.
