Help with 24" wheel identification
Hello All,
I'm new to the site and was wondering if anyone could help me identify these 24" wheels. The best identification so far points to possibly the 1913-1918 Model T Ford Speedster, and I have three that I may be looking to sell if I can get the details. Thanks in advance! |

Re: Help with 24" wheel identification
I would suggest also signing up on Model T Ford Club of America and ask there also.

Those apear to fit a specific type of hub similar to knock off types. Dayton is one of the few surviving manufacturers of knock offs but I have no idea where those were made.

Re: Help with 24" wheel identification
I've seen similar characteristics in an Overland Budd wheel, but it was a 30" wheel.

Re: Help with 24" wheel identification
Until the welded spoke wheels in 1926, no Ford came with wire wheels of any kind. Speedsters can be any year, they are all home/shop built creations. Some cars did come with the option of true laced spoke wire wheels. Quick search, could not match that saw tooth pattern. There were several companies making wire wheels. The Overland Budd wheel, that is the outside diameter of the tire not rim size.

Re: Help with 24" wheel identification
These are definitely accessory Budd wire wheels. I have a set on a 1915 Model T speedster. They were aftermarket wheels made for a variety of cars. The wheels are the same but the hubs are specific to certain brands/models. From what I can see they are for 30 x 3 1/2" tires which is the popular Model T and Overland size. They were an optional wheel for teens era, small size Overlands and many Overlands were fitted with these. Over the years, these Overland Budds have found new homes on Model Ts by modifying the hubs. Hope this helps.

No, that's not my ad, but that was one of the only ones that had the bumps at the base of the spokes.
