Re: Old distributor machine w flathead adapter
Sounds like a Sun Dist. Tester. Value depends on condition and if anyone local wants it as they are difficult to ship. Most likely it will need work to be made functional. I have two and have been trying to sell one for years and mine are in very good condition.

Re: Old distributor machine w flathead adapter
the flat head adapter will go for $150 to 200 on e-pay. I have a 504 sun/flathead adapter and my son uses it more for his older chevy dizzy that I use it for flatheads

Sun testers are generally red. Ford Heyer testers were blue.

They changed to red in the 50's like the 504. If it's a Sun it will be called out on to of machine and the cabinet if it has one. |

Re: Old distributor machine w flathead adapter
My Sun Master Dist machine is hammer tone blue with a big SUN decal on the door of the cabinet. Hard to miss that. Gauge clusters and other hardware are red.
They are expensive to rebuild, the tube that makes the flashes is $150-200 by itself. Like value stated above though, if you get it cheap you can bring it to the Portland Swap Meet and sell it for the value of the adapter. Watch out for Brown Recluse spiders though!! |

Re: Old distributor machine w flathead adapter
If it has a nice cabinet it should be worth more than one that is banged up as many of them are. Gauge glass not broken is another plus. Frayed wiring is to be expected but that is probably the easiest thing to fix. If you can not zero the gauges they may need work or replacement along with the battery holders if they are corridid from old batterys.

Re: Old distributor machine w flathead adapter
Sun made a solid blue machine, they are kind of rare but I hate them as they have to have a car battery to run.. I have had two of that model and have since gotten rid of both of them. I currently use three model 504's.
You never know what goodies might be in the cabinet. |
