Default Friction shocks

Hi Guys,
Mike, aka LizardA from South Africa posted a request for info on Model A shocks.
Can anyone give us a headsup on friction shocks. When were they used, on which cars? Are they OK for our cars, availability, reproductions etc.
Regards
Chris

Actually I thought it was well answered in the short time since it was posted. I do not know anything about friction shocks. There are several people who rebuild the original hydraulic shocks. As posted last week Bill Stipe is making the last run of his hydraulic shocks. I think there may still be afew sets unspoken for. Best to send him a PM to get on the list. Rod

Floats,
I have friction shocks on my '30 Town Sedan and I think they work well. I started a thread here a couple months ago about them and got a few responses. I've had my car for 21 years and I never knew the difference in the ride. When I looked them over this summer I found that each one was not tight and none were put together the same way. I got some new rubber pads and rebuilt them and tightened them up so that they were all the same. She rides pretty good and the cost was minimal.

I run friction shocks also. They work good for me , they are 50/50 instead of 60/40 like originals were , they are adjustable for firmness. If adjusted to firm it can brake the mounting tabs but they are mild steel and can be easily welded. Speedway motors sells them that will work on the front. The rear shocks use a longer angled arm. I'm not sure where complet sets can be purchased at this time.

John,
Try vintagecarparts.co.uk. One of the guys who invented friction Shock, way back when, called himself Anton Hartford. These shocks still go under that name. Google Hartford shocks.
