Worn crankshaft pulley
Working on a 36 LB engine. The crankshaft pulley is worn. See pics. What are my options here?
Replacement pulley? Get one of those sleeves and modern seal? Anyone experience with the latter? Thanks. Dennis Verstuurd vanaf mijn SM-G781B met Tapatalk |

Re: Worn crankshaft pulley
I have used the sleeves and seal with varying success. I personally would buy a new pulley.

Re: Worn crankshaft pulley
I have used SKF speedi-sleeves in everything from small engines to big industrial equipment, and have always had success. The important thing is, to follow the instructions.

Re: Worn crankshaft pulley
I would just turn that off in a lath fit a speedy sleeve or make sure the rope seal sits proud and tight on it ,

Re: Worn crankshaft pulley
That area was not originally smooth and flat. It had a screw thread pattern. Oil in this area would enter the screw thread and the rotation of the crank would return the oil to the oil pan. NOS pulleys are getting hard to find.

Just wonderung what's better. Sleeve and seal are relatively cheap and new pulley indeed hard to find. Dennis Verstuurd vanaf mijn SM-G781B met Tapatalk |

Re: Worn crankshaft pulley
Pulleys can be brazed to repair the seal surface or repair a break. Pre heat in the barby and use it to cool down after. Lathe finish to specs. Shipping from the US would be expensive.
