matching paint

OK, her’s another. My 1929 cabriolet is painted a blue that looks like a deep sky blue. It’s acrylic enamel and I think it is Rustoleum automotive paint. How do I go about matching that color? So far, I’ve bought four spray cans of Rustoleum to try to match the paint on that passenger’s side hood panel with no luck.

Please don’t tell me to take it to a paint shop. I prefer to do things myself. That way if it’s screwed up, I know exactly who to blame. No B.S., no weird explanations, no it was the other guy. It was purely me, and my shoulders are broad enough to accept that.

Some automotive paint suppliers have paint scanning tools that will take a snapshot of your paint and then will create a formula. Some can put it in paint can form for you.

I needed some touch up paint, and I had a local body shop that mixes their own paint, match the green on our dump truck that was restored in 1969.

I bought a pint from them, and did the work myself.

The closest match was a '74 Ferrarri green, and it was a perfect match!!
