Re: Finally flew in a Ford.
An amazing aircraft the Ford.... As a boy, I often wondered wh ythey skinned it in what looked like Barn Siding... Certainly had to add to the aerodynamic drag - but I believe it was one of the first all metal constructed aircraft.

Re: Finally flew in a Ford.
Took a ride last year when the Tri-Motor came to the Napa airport. Best $75 I ever spent. Nine of us from our V-8 regional group flew on it. Great fun and should be on the "bucket list" of any V-8er.

Re: Finally flew in a Ford.
Scenic airlines had 2 of them years ago,and they offered free rides for airline employees. So my son(young)and I took them up on it.They flew us over Las Vegas. They ground looped one tearing up one of the landing gear which injured a lady passenger.

Re: Finally flew in a Ford.
leon bee, I wondered the same thing, that is why I ask if was a B-36. The only B-36 I ever remember seeing was at Chanute AFB when I was In Tec-School. I marched by to and from school every day. never did get a chance to really look at it up close.

Re: Finally flew in a Ford.
There were three tri-motor Fords flying around Long Beach. Then one day they were gone.
We also had two DC3/C47 planes here, last week was the last time to see them, sold to some South American country. I don't know if any of the Grumman Gooses are still here, they were fitted with pontoons. Flying back and forth to Catalina Island. Trip was better than the Island. Bruce

Alaska Jim: I think all the first ones just had props and they added the jets later.

Took the flight five years ago over Punta Gorda Fl. Would do it again in a heartbeat. No lineups beats Disneyworld by a mile.. Bill

Re: Finally flew in a Ford.
Little off topic here but this is worth looking at. Aircraft have came a long way.

Re: Finally flew in a Ford.
A friend of mine has some interesting original pictures of 2 Tri-motors owned by local flying legend Cyde Ice. Several people are lined up in front of "The Sprint of Spearfish" and the Spirit of Belle Fourche". Among those pictured are Al Capone and Calvin Coolidge(in the same pictures together) both of whom spent time in the Black Hills area
