Re: Lets see your Ton Trucks-aka tonners
The 1938 through 1947 Tonner and 3/4 Tonner were always 122 inch wheelbase.
The 1948 through 1952 F-2 and F-3 were also always 122 inch wheelbase. Trucks bigger than these were called different things through the years. The most common description is "1 1/2 ton", also called "ton and a half". The very nice 1936 big black pickup is a ton and half. Earlier big trucks were rated at a ton, later big trucks were rated at up to two tons. |

Re: Lets see your Ton Trucks-aka tonners
I believe the 36 is a 1.5 ton for which a custom pickup bed was created.

Re: Lets see your Ton Trucks-aka tonners
Here's my '47 tonner panel and my '46 tonner pickup (s). While not a tonner, my '47 2 ton and my '59 f350 9' express which we'd have to say is a later model tonner. This one is the most modified from stock. I bought the 9' bed as a utility trailer in dry Spokane Wa. It has a mercury tailgate and is as straight as a pin. Then I had to find a truck to put it on. Engine is a 220 cu in cummins '6at' 6 cyl turbo diesel, 120 hp from a ups truck. Tranny is gm sm465 4 speed. Rear axle is from a '92 f350. I adapted the big 6 lug front hubs to match the newer 8 lug rear. It is a very usable and hiway friendly truck. In the past I have also owned a ;38 tonner express for 10 years, a '53 f350 9' express and 3) '28-'29 AA stakebeds, a '32 BB and a '34 BB, a 37 1 1/2 ton and a '40 1 1/2 ton. There were more. I have never owned an old car. The little guy on the rear fender is now 21 and works in a body shop in Seattle.

Re: Lets see your Ton Trucks-aka tonners
Sold the '37 because the '47 2 ton was much safer hauling beams and logs on the side of this mountain. 2 speed rear and boosted hydraulic brakes. And the '47 has paralell frame rails to support the script bed I had. Here's a short video hauling logs....I gotta say I do miss this truck.

Re: Lets see your Ton Trucks-aka tonners
Willowbilly, An F4 is listed as a 1 ton in the truck owners manual. F3 is a heavy 3/4 ton and an F2 is a light 3/4 ton. I believe the Tonner designation ended with the '47 trucks.

Re: Lets see your Ton Trucks-aka tonners
OK, thanks. I've had my eye on a nice 48 F4. I think it has 7.50x20 rubber, nice dump bed and 23,000 miles. Just waiting for the old man to come off the $2500 price tag and me have enough at the same time, lol.
