Re: How to Lift the Engine?
Here is a picture of what I use to lift engines. I install the spark plug deals in #1 and #4. It is cheap and works well. I have pulled and installed several engine with it.

Re: How to Lift the Engine?
mshmodela,
Yes, it is that simple. I also used a flat washer under the nut, why I don't know. It just seemed like a good idea and to make sure the nut couldn't slip through the holes in the chain. The bolts and nuts are 3/8" size. BTW, the large hook on the end of the chain was just there and has no function and I was to lazy to remove it. Rusty Nelson |

Using it to remove the engine was just a freebee, using a tool I already had.

Re: How to Lift the Engine?
Pulled the engine today. Thanks to all who advised. I am proud that I was able to do it by myself, just like Grand dad did on his Kansas farm. Only took me 2 1/2 hours, no broken bolt and only a few fowl words. I thought it would be tougher. Tomorrow I'll transfer the clutch and flywheel and maybe start putting the new one in.

Re: How to Lift the Engine?
Mike V. Florida,
Where did you pick those up for $10? I recently pulled the engine out of my '28 roadster and had the same issues that Brobrian had. I ended up throwing money at the issue using some clevis' bolts attached to the head studs. Not a good way to go about it but the engine did come out. It needs to go back in eventually and I'd like to use the bolts and sparkplug adapters you show in the pics!

Re: How to Lift the Engine?
Just though I'd share my excitement! Finished putting the motor from Grand-dad's combine in the truck today. Used much of the advise I've gotten from many of you here, and Les Andrews book. Fired right up (more or less) and runs smoothly for an hour. A few adjustments (clutch and carb, head torque) and I'll be off for my test run.
