Default Original VS reproduction 1929 Roadster

Tried to replace my gas guage and the reproduction outer nut is very poor fit. My original nut threads very smoothly but the repo is so loose I'm afraid to try to tighten it up.

My original

The reproduction

Think restore not replace. You have a good original, just have it re Nickel plated. That Chrome repop would look wrong even if the thread was correct.

The outer repo nut is an issue as you found out... Do not use it as the threads are off..I tried more than one then sent them back for a refund

If you have it re nickeled, have them mask the threads. I had some done and the plating was so thick they were useless. Also, ask for nickel only, as the copper undercoat is not needed with brass.

The bad one you sent back is turned around and then sent out to another unsuspecting customer.
