Engine turns backward???

I got back to the Ford today. Had a freshly charged battery, got the fuel pump working, sprayed some gas in the new carb & it "hit" like it wanted to start. Reconnected the fuel line to carb, started and ran like a new engine. Ran smooth & quiet and ran until I turned the switch off.
Never did figure out what we did wrong before, but no longer an issue. Ran the car, shifted into all four gears and the trans worked fine. Hydraulic brakes are working well too.
