I don't blame you for not wanting to drill holes. I'd make a bracket that clamps in place to hold the end of the shock. Others have done it, so I know you can also. I wouldn't drill, grind, or weld anything to my Model A's.

Street/hot rodders have been drilling holes in front axles for years. Two holes not going to hurt anything.

I used to work in a tool and die shop. Oh how I miss those Bridgeport milling machines.
