Try installing a PCV Valve. Relieving the pressure inside the engine might effect the oil leak. My 59 A/B leaks not! I installed a full-circle lip-seal on the front of the crank and a PVC tappled into the underside of the intake manifold. The PCV was from an early Mustang 6 cylinder and has pipe treads on one end, so it screws right into place. No hoses!
I use fluid grease, NLGI #000 with MoS2 (Moly) in the gearbox and steering gearbox, and they don't leak either. Rocketsled |

Is all this oil leaking causing clutch problems. Oil getting on the clutch disk. I am having clutch problems. As soon as I ease off the clutch pedal car starts shaking.
I haven't had the car long. I am going to clean it up good and see if I can tell anything about where the oil on the motor is coming from. I have a new pilot bearing, clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing. I sure hope the main seal isn't bad. I haven't noticed any oil on the driveway to speak of. I hear you have to pull the motor to change a rear main. I am not equipped for that. |

An oil leak coming out of the slot at the bottom of the bell housing could also mean your trans front seal is worn as I found out when I swapped a 3 speed for an overdrive unit.

It has been so long since I made this post that I forgot what I did to solve the problem. I looked through my records and found a receipt for an oil pump drive cover from Baxter Ford Parts. Then I looked back at my engine photos and saw the culprit--a brass screw extending beyond the engine surface so that the old cover could not seal the area and was warped in the process of tightening. I filed off the extruding screw head, inserted the gasket and new cover and "presto" no more leaks (well maybe a couple of drops once in awhile). I hope my pictures come through!

if you use a new modern oil seal expect a oil leak. the new seals are junk find an original seal. those new seals are wimpy & soft.the old style contain asbestos the new don't contain asbestos don't worry you won't die if you touch it

The PVC advice is spot on. I welded up the 59A style pan breather with a pipe plug, and routed that opening to a PVC- No more leaks- Negative crankcase pressure!. Newc
