Thanks for the responses much appreciated. I got one from Fred barnfind08 . It’s NOS it came in the box with the original paper , bolts and ground cable . Really nice piece. Question for you guy mine has a paper wound tightly around one of the coils . It doesn’t move and from the instructions is supposed to be there. Does anyone know what it is for? Insulation possibly?

That´s the voltage regulation and has a very thin wire compared to the others...so besides being a mechanical protection for the wire you have temperature compensation for the charging voltage to...short version...it works has a reason for being there don´t mess with it !

The use of treated paper was common as an electrical insulator. The pole coils can have magnetic attraction and could draw small ferrous particles so the cover cap and paper insulation helps to prevent that.
The old Model A power house generators had a lot of paper in them due to the number of coils in the field. |
