I installed a mitchel in my forty coupe and the only MOD was a hole in the transmission cover. It was easy. Now, you do have minimal clearance between the floor pans and shift linkage compared to a Model A. I installed it without modifications. In my opinion you do not have MAJOR modifications. It cost less than a columbia and well built. I have the 36% reduction with 3.78.

Pretty simple to mount the speedo mech on the inside of the firewall. Mine is mounted on the vertical portion of the firewall just behind the cowl vent. the actual mounting only required the drilling of two holes from the engine side to accommodate the two 8-32 screws (longer of course) that originally held the unit to the Columbia head mounting bracket. Relocate the existing speedo cable to the the SW unit and routed a short cable to the odometer. I fed the 1/8"vacuum hoses through an existing grommet in the firewall. The SW unit is clearly visible up behind the cowl vent.
Of course when I did this modification I was in my early twenty's and as we should all remember, doing things the "HARD WAY, STANDING IN A HAMMOCK" was no problem.
