Not quite the same topic but....I bought a volvo o.d. mounted in the torque tube from a guy in Cali. who told me he bought it from Rich Little. I called and sent pictures of the unit to A guy in Rich Little's shop and he said it wasn't one of theirs. He did send me a wiring diagram for it though. Nowthe question. I've seen people on here saying they use the unit on 6v. I wired it up and nothing. When I put a battery charger on 12v. to the solenoid I could hear it click. So would a 12v mower battery under the seat with the o.d. wired to it solve my problem?

My Laycock overdrives all function fine on 6 volts. Are you saying that you hooked a 6V battery charger up and tried it that way?

No, I couldn't get it to work off of my 6v battery in the car. So I put a battery charger on 12v to the solenoid and it clicked in.

Hi Mike,
I think you might have other issues.. My OD also works fine with 6V, which i believe they all should do.. I think you will be over engineering the repair by trying to wire in a 12v battery when you shouldn't have to.. Maybe either check your wiring to the solenoid, or maybe the condition of the solenoid itself? Steve |

my Ford Model A Coupe is now nearly ready. What is missing now is an overdrive from a Volvo into my torque tube. Because I want to drive long distance on the highway. I got the tube and the J type overdrive from Laycock. I also do have a complete Volvo transmission from which I will take the shaft which drives the overdrive oil pump. My question would be if somebody did the job and does have detailed info on this. Is there a sealing required on the front plate to hold the oil inside? How to get the oil into the OD? Any info is welcome. Best regards from Germany Last edited by FlatheadV8Mike; 07-01-2024 at 02:12 PM. |
