I recall the Special Interest Autos did an article on the early problems and the changes in the '49-50 transition. Lots of people in the old car world own complete runs of the great but deceased magazine..see if you can find one of them!

I always wanted a 1949 Coupe or Convertible. I like the 50 models but something kept drawing me to the 49. When I retired, I celebrated by buying a basket case 49 Coupe. Took 5 years but I can drive it now. Maybe someday it'll get painted.

Looking at a 49 Ford convertible all of the badging exterior looks correct but I noticed it has a gas cap door. did ford possibly add that somewhere in 1949 ? have only seen photos so far going to look at car soon. thanks guys

Ford actually made a lot of improvements during the 49 production year. Look for a model made in August 1949. The coupe had a trunk big enough to sleep in - I know.
