Remove the fan belt, fill the radiator to the top, then goose the throttle several times and look for bubbles from a leaking head gasket. Almost always overheating comes from a plugged radiator, or late timing. I wouldn't be too quick to pull the head, but if you do the check the rear cylinders for junk build up in the coolant chamber.

I took the new radiator off and replaced w a 32 radiator i had laying around and it is cooling fine. Head running around 145-150. I borrowed a n.o.s. 28 radiator today and will install it tomorrow. If it works fine I will return my $600.00 radiator for another one. What a pain in my neck.
