Early V8 Transmission

I recently replaced a couple of gears in my '33 transmission, and now i"m confused about the whole assembly. Everything seems to fit and turn easily, but the shifting is all screwed up, and I have no neutral.

My transmission may be anything from 1933 to 1938, I can't tell. I have the Green Bible, but it is somewhat lacking in details. Can anyone steer me to a well-illustrated source of information on these assemblies?

Al see if you can find neutral with the cover off. It may be the shifting forks. G.M.

You haven't by chance fitted the first/rev slider backwards?

You may have the selector rods not matched in the middle to locate the shifter , slide them .

It worked nicely before, and I've done nothing with the upper assembly. I let my grandson take the car out on a date, and I'm thinking he might have tried to downshift at 40 mph. First gear teeth were all over the bottom. I bought several gears, reassembled the trans, and discovered I had installed the sliding gear backwards. Had all trhe speeds with the cover off, but the shifter forks did not match my assembly.

Now I have that sliding gear correctly in place and I cant get neutral even on the bench with the top off. I'm sure I've made another goof on the assembly.

But it's not my first........

You need a copy of Van Pelts trans book!
As to your immediate situation, I'd 'unscrew' the top(stick)from trans top. Take a good flashlight and a large long screw driver. Shine the light and use screw driver to bring BOTH gears back to neutral..so that both forks slide in easily..

Al has ordered the book and should have it soon. From what he told me, there could be some "issues" with mis-matched gears in this trans, which is apparently not an actual 1933 tranny. So, he'll need to sort thru the parts he has and refer to my book to get a handle on this problem. I figure I'll hear from Al again soon.... I'm sure he appreciates the many suggestions, but he'll have to get things more figured out first.

You know, the exact same thing happened to me in my Mom's 67 Mustang.!
Must be something with those Ford transmissions.
