Time to get heater in truck
Well after working all day in the rain yesterday and temps in the 40's the truck ride home was a bit chilly. I got a heater with my truck but like the rest of it, a wired mess. I have located a switch and defrost panel from local junk yard that happened to have a 47 truck there. I guess i need to know if I'am missing peices for defrost. The vents are still in truck just need connected to I think the piece missing for defrost control. I can't figure where defrost cable connects to now. Hope these pictures will help. Thanks Fall is on the way!

Re: Time to get heater in truck
It looks like there needs to be an adapter that would go on the square outlet on the back of the heater that would convert to the round dual hose connectors. That adapter would have a cable controlled flap to control air flow.

Re: Time to get heater in truck
the hot water heater you have is not correct as supplied by Ford, the switch/choke panel is an original piece. I have a heater that was supplied by ford for years 41-48 cars and 41-47 trucks it has three doorstwo on the top and one longer oe on the bottom that I will be using in my 41 truck. I will take apicture of it and try to post for you to see.

Re: Time to get heater in truck
Mine is a montgomery ward heater. Not trying to win awards, just stay warm. The holes for it were already in the car so I am not damaging anything by putting it back in. If I go to a show I will yank it out first.

Re: Time to get heater in truck
Word of advise (take it or leave it). Check it for leaks. Would be a shame to get it installed and then find out that it leaks. Happened to someone I know.

Re: Time to get heater in truck
Your local radiator shop can flush and test the core (and repair as necessary) Mine cost $20 last fall. Good insurance against leaks AND, by being clean, it will put out more heat. FWIW

Re: Time to get heater in truck
If you can't find one most likely you'l have to fabricate a square to round adapter. This is one method. The dim's are for illustration only.

Re: Time to get heater in truck
Fortunately for me (or maybe unfortunately because it probably doesn't throw much heat), mine is not a true core. It goes in and comes right back out in the same spot. The fins just radiate the heat from the one section where the pipes are. With all that copper I cant imagine what one would cost these days. It is heavy.

Re: Time to get heater in truck
47 flatbead - The stock switch lights up to indicate an "on" condition - either direction. No light = off.

Re: Time to get heater in truck
Speaking of Ford Truck Heaters, I just picked up two F-1 heaters, that I have been working on. These are 12v, two speed. Does anyone know what years are they for ?
Also, does anyone have a diagram, as to where the duct-work fits in. Where does the heated air go when it exits the duct work on the heaters ? Thank you, MIKE CLICK ON PHOTOS TO ENLARGE - Twice Last edited by FL&WVMIKE; 10-02-2011 at 04:56 PM. |

Re: Time to get heater in truck
Alright now wonder if I can conver the stock switch to 12v without too much problem. Got the heater torn down and soaking to get all the crud off. I guess this heater is a rare aftermarket heater. One sold on epay for over 500. love this old school stuff.
