Default Steering Column Anti Rattler, 31 Cabriolet

I am installing a restored steering column in my 31 Slant Windshield Cabriolet. Is there any preferred location for the seam in the anti-rattler strip? Ed

Do you mean the felt anti-rattlers that go on the spark and throttle rods inside the column? They go about halfway, next to each other.

If you mean the rubber insulator that goes around the column in the tank bracket, I put the seam on the bottom after trimming like 852. I put a coat of ArmourAll on the rubber to make it slide easier into the bracket and around the column as I tightened the bolts.

Thank you for your comments. Yes, I am talking about the rubber strip that goes around the column. Ed

For what it is worth (and not very much) I carefully fitted the anti-rattle strip to my 31 slant windshield steering column and the total length of the rubber strip is 5 7/8 in. long. Ed

I don't wish to beat a dead horse but I have a couple of more recommendations. In order to get the best fit, put some silcone on both sides of the rubber strip. If you don't, the rubber strip will bind up at the lower clamp which will shorten the rubber strip leaving a gap at the bottom. With the silicone, the strip will slide over the surface to the steering column and lower clamp maintaining the strip's total length of 5 7/8 in. and no gap at the bottom. Ed
