hank crank starting rod problem
I attempted to insert my hand cranking rod into the engine and it stops 1 inch from the engine fitting. I suspect that the shaft either has a few high spots or is ever so slightly warped. Yet I cannot see and bending or warping. Any suggestions? Should I sand or grind down the shaft slightly?

Re: hank crank starting rod problem
Are the crank extensions all the same length for all pre war Fords?

Re: hank crank starting rod problem
The rod is long enough to reach into the engine cog. But it stops 1 inch before entering it.
I turned the saft around and inserted the other end and it reaching into the engine cog. I have the long shaft like the one you pictured. |

Re: hank crank starting rod problem
I teste the straight rod on a stone flat and it definitely has a bow to it. I will attempt tp straighten it myself. Heating the rod and pounding it straight.

Re: hank crank starting rod problem
I have visions of if it gets hung up it’ll destroy a grill and a radiator and hopefully you’re out of the way.

Re: hank crank starting rod problem
Yup. I was wondering how easy it would slip off on start as well. It would be a real issue if it did not disengage. On the T it easily slips away. But I have concerns about that very issue.
