Re: Ford car Ford gas
I don't remember ever seeing Ford gas globes, even at Hershey! Did I just miss them while my eyes were focused on Model A parts?
With the price of tires at that time, an original fan belt was probably a few cents compared to today's multiple $100.00s, if you can even find one! |

A preservation of the environment - not so much. For years Europe did not mandate catalytic converters on diesel cars - the thinking being that the diesel cycle was by its nature "more efficient" than a gasoline engine - and that diesel should be "encouraged" so to better preserve fuel stocks and make the countries less reliant on foreign energy sources. So Europe gained environmentally in "efficiency" what Americans gained in increased fuel consumption and imposition of a catalytic converter. This same thinking allowed European Diesel Passats to get nearly 60mpg American while their American cousins labored under the engine computer management imposed by the EPA - which required an extra shot of fuel AFTER THE EXHAUST VALVE WAS OPEN - and provided no power but was simply provided to keep the catalytic converter catalyzing. And a resultant fuel economy of 40-42. Just a different - American - technical way to achieve the same ends. Joe K Who liked his VW Diesel Golf - but will never own another one.

Re: Ford car Ford gas
I have a miniature Ford Gas pump that I picked up years ago. I had heard somewhere it was Benzol and was made from captured gases from making coke. Ford never let anything go to waste.

About 5 years ago I bought one that had the "fix". I average around 36mpg driving normal and if I drive economically I can barely crack 40mpg. Not only that, but its a hunk of junk. Under certain conditions it'll throw an EGR code and I've had a sensor leave me stranded 50 miles from home. The worst was over the holidays when I was taking it back home to visit family. It was bitter cold and 400 miles down the road it died. It ended up being caused by the intercooler icing over internally. From what I've read, this became an issue because part of the "fix" was increasing EGR flow to reduce NOX emissions. So there's a lot more warm exhaust gas passing through the intercooler causing condensation that freezes at low temps. Whatever slight decrease in emissions they saved, I have more than offset by having to tow the thing hundreds of miles back home with a big old diesel truck |

Shell = Gasoline
Ford = Benzol / (ˈbenzɒl) / noun. a crude form of benzene, containing toluene, xylene, and other hydrocarbons, obtained from coal tar or coal gas and used as a fuel. |

Re: Ford car Ford gas
does this mean adding marvel mystery oil, a light oil, to your gas tank, makes the gas inside the tank Ford Benzol?

Re: Ford car Ford gas
The Ford Motor Company produced an alternative fuel sold under the name Benzol from 1932 to 1942. It consisted of three parts gasoline and one part light oil, a by-product from the coal used in Ford's coke ovens. Ford never marketed Benzol beyond the Detroit area, and the company stopped making it altogether when the United States entered World War II.

Ford Benzol DID give better fuel mileage and the one part 'oil' did a nice job lubricating the upper cylinders An original Ford Benzol gas globe is worth what a nicely restored '29 Tudor goes for today,,,,,, as a globe they are BIG bucks almost never come up for sale. There are repops floating around out there that were made in the 70's. The originals were all one piece glass globes the repops mostly came out on a plastic CAPCO frame as I recall. Oh yes, nice picture thanks for posting! |

Re: Ford car Ford gas
I have a pair of the repro faces I bought in the late '70's. With two plastic frames I put one on my 1927 Tolkhiem pump in the backyard & the other in my shop. On the back side I put a pair of "That Good Gulf faces.
