old VW crash pic
Yes Keith and Big Hammer, I suspect it's somewhere in UK. Definitely Bobbies helmets in background and it looks like the rear of a British Ford Consul Mk II (1956-62) on the left . The A's oil track seems to indicate it coming over from the L to impact the VW. The VW's reg plate is not UK - I wonder if it was someone over for a visit - sorry end of a holiday maybe

Re: old VW crash pic
After that crash, they repaired the Beetle with whatever parts they could scrape up, but the Model A was a total loss.

The photo was taken in Hastings New Zealand, and the cop in the background is my late Uncle, Geoff Rutter.

Why do the New Zealanders erect utility poles on both sides of the street?

Re: old VW crash pic
Can't say I can recall utility poles on both sides of the street in my America. Street lights in the city for obvious reasons, but not utility power poles. Maybe it is a regional thing. How about one of you guys from down there, is this common? Guess It's not that important, just curious as to what might justify it. We all know the cost of anything is usually the first and last consideration given to anything.....

Re: old VW crash pic
New Zealand is a very advanced country.
They foresaw the need for EV poles and wires long before the rest of us had considered it to be a thing. It has resulted in less displacement of cows and sheep. |

Re: old VW crash pic
One side of the road is power lines ( high voltage) , the other side is phone lines. You don’t want the phone line powered by high voltage

Re: old VW crash pic
Interesting, makes sense....But in my area they run the high voltage lines on the top of the pole and the phone and cable below them.

Re: old VW crash pic
Wow, that's a recipe for disaster but putting the telephone cable on top wouldn't be any better. If the top cable comes down say, in a storm everybody who is on the phone will talking real fast!

Re: old VW crash pic
Looks to be a daily driver in the late 50's, early 60's in New Zealand. Notice that both cars are Right Hand Drive Sad end for a decent Model A Roadster. |
