Default Inside door handle on a 1948 Ford

How do I install a pin into the door handle.

After escutcheon and handle on the shaft, push on the escutcheon to compress the spring behind the door panel. Then you can see to align the hole in handle with hole in the shaft. Then simply insert the pin. When the compression is released, the escutcheon keeps the pin from dropping out.

The above is easier written than done. It's a tricky little job. You need a third hand. I like this tool that lets you push with your chest to compress, so you still have two hands to fiddle with the handle and the little pin:

Reproduction pins are available. Buy extras. You are sure to drop one, and it will role away never to be seen again.
