Nut holding tool?
I had to remove my radio face plate to repaint to match the dash paiunt color better.
I am having trouble getting the last two face plate screws in. It is almost impossible to hold the nut on and even aligning it with the screw. This is a narrow space at the lower edge of the dash on my 1933 It is the type of job where a miniature glowing octopus is needed to handle the situation. Note: I left these two bottom screws off the first time I put the faceplate on to install my radio. Last edited by FrankWest; 10-31-2015 at 10:34 AM. |

Use some dumb dumb (strip caulking) put a ball on the end of your finger and stick the nut to it. This even works in cases where you have a screw, bolt, etc down in a hole of deep place by putting the dumb dumb on the end of the screw driver or in a socket etc

I had some success.. I glued three nuts together with kids tacky glue , but the top one had to be off center by almost 1/2 diameter because the curvature of the mounting surface was curved in. I was able to line this us with the use of a nail, Thanks to A bones suggestion!, and then inserted the screw...fingered these in the dark until the screw was started in the nut. At first the nut didn't go in straight and I had to slight;y unscrew the thing.What a PIA!!! I am in bad shape..It took me two days of trial and error to get this one Nut attached. I have one more to go, will try the same technique.
The ideas and tool suggested are great...and will consider them ..Thanks guys. |
