I have called the post office a couple times to ask about them helpng

Also, I always get a phone number before sending money to anyone.
If I can't talk to them on the phone, then NO money will be sent.
That don't guarantee they are not a scammer, but a number will
help track them down if they are.


This. At least in NJ, it's an urban legend that the PO will help you if you get scammed.
