tried kerosene? use on a small spot to be sure it doesn't curl the rubber.

i would not try kerosine, ive been using it as parts washing fluid and any rubber grip tool and my shoes just soak it up like crazy and never seems to dry out so it reeks like kerosine for days. even when you think its gone if it starts to get hot you can start smelling it again.
