When the brass syncro rings get worn to the point that the front face contacts the side of gear before the inner cone of syncro contacts cone on 2nd-or high gear,it will act like a non-syncro trans& require double clutching to shift without grinding.The rings should have around .015" clearance when pushed onto the gear.When the fine grooves are worn off the inside of syncro rings,they are worn out.
