Default 8volt battery

I recently saw a 6 volt Ford with an 8 volt battery and wondered if the 3 brush generator could be adjusted to charge the battery. Also, I would think this would cause problems for the original Ford coil, resistor, and possibly the condenser. A few years ago I saw something similar but with an alternator and was told that the alternator had been adjusted??? to not overcharge the battery. Is this funky stuff just to improve starting power?

I like your wording as funky stuff!
Yes, 8 V batteries are merely funky band-aids intended to avoid the necessity of proper maintenance of electrical connections. They are also the quickest and easiest way to get laughed out of the Thursday Nite Cars & Coffee events!

8-volt batteries are for golf carts that used them. Six 8-volt batteries can be connected to make 48-volts which is a common voltage for the golf carts. The 36-volt carts used three big 12-volt batteries.

there was one of those in my '41 when i bought it. its removal and replacement with a proper 6v battery was preceded by the removal of the all the cables, fried points, voltage regulator, condenser and a couple of fried gauges.

oh! what a web we weave!
