In a 1964 Popular Hot Rodding article, a detailed article on the whole vehicle written by Spence Murray states that the engine block was a 1933 Model B. Also 1939 Transmission and details down to a 1932 Hudson water pump and 1960 Cadillac generator.

The PDF notes he broke 7 transmissions and was looking for something stronger. From the photos it looks like a mid 50s side shift Borg Warner with OD was the fix
