Deleting my stock fuel pump on a 59 block, going with an electric pump. Do I need to plug the fuel pump rod hole over the cam shaft, or is it ok to leave alone?

I eliminated the fuel pump on my '37 1/2 ton by removing the fuel pump push rod, I left the pump in place along with the fuel lines. Looks original, works as it should.

As long as the electric fuel pump you choose does not block flow when turned off (most do not), you can leave the stock pump in place and just pump through it. I like the redundancy. If either pump fails, I get home. Pick a pump that does not exceed 3 psi to avoid the possibility of exceeding the ability of the carburetor float valve to shut off fuel to the fuel bowl on the carb

Hi the answer to your question is Yes. When you remove the fuel pump push rod you need to plug the pushrod hole in the block. Without a fuel pump push rod in the hole there's a rather large leak in the main oil feed system of the engine.
Measure the diameter of the pump push rod then usually what's done find a short bolt with solid shoulder the same diameter. Put that in the push rod hole with some good grade RTV placed just under the head of the bolt that will add additional sealing so no oil leaks out.. Ronnieroadster

No, On the 59 and earlier engines you will not see any decrease in oil pressure by removing the rod. On the later 8BA you probably would because the bushing has a small hole in it that the earlier engines don’t have.

Yes I plug the hole usually with a tapped plug when building the engine. I never use the stock pump, back in the old days the electric pumps were very repiable, but not now/ My last build i installed a Ford in tank pump in the tank and the fuel gauge worked. I think??
